This is a portrait I volunteered to do for a charity called ‘Art Against Knives’, which was set up after the terrible stabbing of young artist Oliver Hemsley. You can find out all about them at: www.artagainstknives.com

The guys wanted to involve other artists and get some images of the staff for promotional purposes and I was chosen to do a portrait in my style and here is the result:

Not so long ago I did some storyboards for a company producing a new Sesame Street project (Sesame Tree) and I illustrated the opening title sequence. It has now been broadcast and I’ve been able to do a screen grab comparison of what a I drew along with what appears on TV:

I don’t blog. Well obviously I do, but not very often. I don’t book my face, bee my bo, I don’t even tweet. How 20th century am I? It has a lot to to with procrastination, attention deficit and the fact that its easier to watch another re-run of friends than think about communicating to the blogosphere.

But, every so often I make the effort, like some lethargic Galapagos tortoise. These illustrations have been gathering cyber dust on my hard drive for a while:

I had to do a few page holder ideas. It’s weird, actors get typecast if they don’t display a ‘range’ whereas I have sometimes had trouble for not being consistent.

Sometimes I like to watch people on TV shows, like chat shows, so I can draw their faces. You can really get some great characters and the camera can hold long enough to allow you to get a good drawing.

I find this really tough. I’m not a natural blogger and have never kept a diary or anything like that. I’ve tried to do the Facebook thing and I get really frustrated whenever I hear everyone going about how many friends they have on Myspace, even my kid sister is clacking away on her keyboard and Bebo page. Anyway, I have lots of problems in relation to concentration and commitment to finishing work, I’m easily distracted. but the following artworks come from a variety of ideas which I am trying really hard to see through to completion, I thought it might help to put them up here to chart the progress until the final piece.

Here are some production sketches for a character drawing request from an RPG group. They requested 11 characters in all and although the above sketch is really rough, I was able to work out the composition and decided to tackle it in three sections. Here is the central character sketch…

I’ve been struggling for a long time with deciding on my ‘style’ of drawing, or which style I feel most comfortable with. My problem is that I have a background in graphic design and the demands of commercial practice requires flexibility in visual presentation, which at first I found exciting, but have since realized that, creatively speaking, I have lost my voice since my output has always been a reaction to the requirements of the job and other people. Anyway, never mind all that, Lets have some fun and see if I can blog my voice back.
